Translation tips

Agglutination builds long words from suffixes

Turkish adds meaning through suffix chains: 'ev' (house) → 'evler' (houses) → 'evlerimiz' (our houses) → 'evlerimizden' (from our houses). A single Turkish word can express an entire English phrase. Getting the suffix order wrong breaks the word entirely.

Vowel harmony governs every suffix

Turkish suffixes change their vowels to harmonize with the root word: 'ev-de' (at home) but 'okul-da' (at school). Front vowels (e, i, ö, ü) and back vowels (a, ı, o, u) must match throughout the word. This rule has almost no exceptions.

SOV word order — verb always last

Turkish follows Subject-Object-Verb order: 'Ben kitabı okudum' (I book-the read). The verb always comes last, and other elements can shift for emphasis. Translating from English requires restructuring every sentence — not just swapping words.

No grammatical gender

Turkish has no grammatical gender — 'o' means both 'he', 'she', and 'it'. When translating FROM Turkish, the engine must infer gender from context. When translating TO Turkish, gendered distinctions in the source naturally merge into gender-neutral forms.

Did you know? Turkish underwent a dramatic alphabet reform in 1928 — switching from Arabic script to Latin letters overnight. The change, led by Atatürk, was implemented so rapidly that newspapers printed both scripts side by side for just a few months.
